More Loch Ness, Less Luke

As a long-time fan of the Bachelor (and previous recapper), I’ve taken it upon myself to recap Hannah Brown’s season. So here it is: the Rose Recap of Season 15 episode 5.

The rose ceremony from last week's episode got pushed to this week's episode because of Luke. This week's episode was pushed back to Tuesday (thx NBA finals) AND the rose ceremony got pushed to the next episode due to, you guessed it: Luke. You can bet I'm getting all 5 foot 5 inches of myself ready to fight.

The episode starts out with more Luke(s) drama and it's so? unattractive and unnecessary. Hannah sits there while the Lukes bicker and it reminds of me of when my mom would send my brother and me outside until we would get done with our argument. Maybe this is a controversial opinion, but I don't want to act as the mother of the men that I'm dating.

Chris comes and tells everyone that it's time for the rose ceremony. As Hannah is about to give out the first rose, Luke S. asks to speak to her. He says that he's sorry for any pain that he's caused her and leaves the show. I'm surprised and confused but good riddance.

At the (long awaited) Rose Ceremony:

Jed, Garrett, and Tyler already have roses.

Chris removes a rose (pouring one out for Luke S. I guess) and the remaining roses go to:

  • Peter

  • Connor

  • Dylan

  • Dustin

  • Mike

  • Kevin

  • Devin

  • Grant

  • Luke P.

Meaning that we have to say goodbye to two of my personal favorites: John Paul Jones and Matteo (seriously Hannah kept unemployed Grant over these two).

A half hour into the episode, this week's destination is revealed: Scotland. The boys go to a pub where Hannah swoops in and takes Mike on the first One-on-One.

Mike and Hannah walk around town together. They go to a local book store, candy shop, and restaurant where they try haggis. I don't envy the Haggis but I've always said the best date to get on The Bachelor is the one where you get to walk around and see the country you're in.

During the night portion of the date, Mike says that the last time he was this nervous is when he told his ex that he loved her for the first time. Mike doesn't say that he loves Hannah but he says that he'd be ready to propose.

When he's with the boys, Mike is such an instigator but this date is really cute and sweet and I kinda forget about all of Mike's animosity towards Luke. Of course Mike gets the rose.

The group date takes place in front of a castle that looks similar to the one the boys are staying in and features:

  • Devin

  • Tyler

  • Jed

  • Grant

  • Connor

  • Dustin

  • Peter

  • Kevin

  • Garret

The boys participate in a traditional Highland Games, kilts and all. Everyone is pretty mediocre at the games, which include ax throwing, running while carrying milk, and wrestling.

Jed asks to be paired with Hannah for the wrestling portion, and instead of either one of them putting up a fight, they use it as an excuse to kiss. Similar to Luke winning the pageant because said that he loved Hannah, Jed wins the Highland Games.

The night portion of the date gets a little steamy. Without Luke on the date to make everything about himself, other relationships are able to develop, including a couple of major makeout sessions with Jed, Peter, and Tyler (as if they weren't already the obvious front runners).

The foot pop? Are you kidding me? This is JUST like Princess Diaries

Jed gets the group date rose, so maybe the whole debacle about him not being there for "the right reasons" has blown over.

Luke gets the last One-on-One where Hannah says it's either her first date with her husband or her last date with Luke (fingers crossed its the latter).

Hannah spends the whole date trying to get Luke to be honest about his feelings. She's says that she needs Luke to be who he is on the inside, but I'm not sure there's a difference. After all, God had to tell Luke to knock it off because he was too much of a womanizer.

For some reason, Hannah keeps Luke around for the night portion of the date where she coaxes him to say that he loves every part of her. Immediately, she becomes the self-sabotaging queen I know and love, and asks Luke if he's sure he could love her because she's a bit of a human disaster.

It seems like Hannah finally realizes that Luke isn't going to become as emotionally mature as she wants without time, therapy, or both, and tells Luke that he doesn't get the rose. The episode ends without a rose ceremony but it looks like Luke is back in the preview. If he stays for much longer, I might just jump a fence.
